Many ask how I got here
Well, I've got a heartwarming story to share!
In the magical land of my childhood, my days were a whirlwind of fun and games. But for me, it was like stepping into a world where I transformed from a regular kid into a sparkling- dazzling doll in my own magical and enchanting universe. Whether playing with friends or lost in my own make-believe world, every moment with my toys was like living out a a splash of color to my life's story that I dreamt of having. As I grew older and watched glamorous Tyra Banks star in the movie “Life Size”, a hint of uncertainty crept in - was I different, I weaving a world of dreams others couldn't imagine, shaping my world through a lens of make-believe that others couldn't grasp? In my imagination sanctuary, creativity bloomed as my safe haven. A wise voice, my Nanny (Dads Mom), predicted a future hair wizard in me, she would say "This child is going to know how to do some hair," recognizing the hidden talent within me, even at a young age. My Nanny was a white woman with bi-racial children/grandchildren. My dad and his siblings and pretty manageable hair, so when I came into the world my hair was a bit different and she did not know how to manage it. Nurtured by Nanny's vision, I flourished, becoming a future hair wizard in the making by learning how to style my own hair when I would be with her.
Back in the day, my sweet Granny Mary (Moms Mom), who had a funny fear of flaunting her toes due to diabetes, inspired a creative journey for me. I transformed into a little pedicure prodigy, pampering and jazzing up granny’s feet with vibrant colors and funky artsy flower designs. Granny proudly paraded and flaunted her fabulous fancy feet at bingo and rodeos, boasting to others saying, "My little grand girl does my nails and feet and honey I just love when she comes over, she massages me right to sleep!" So Little did I know, by boosting her confidence, I unintentionally kick-started my career in vibrant world of nail artistry at a tender age.
It was like a secret mission - both my grandma’s dropping hints, my mom referring & bringing me clients, my aunts showering me with nail kits and beauty goodies. While serving as a tough correctional officer, they all nudged me towards beauty school. Unbeknownst to each other, they were all fostering aspirations within me, planting dreams in my mind. I thought my beauty escapades were just part of a magical fantasy, a way to escape my struggles. Little did I know that this make-believe world would lead me to establish multiple businesses and even a beauty school! If I could impart one thing to my students, it would be that dreams can indeed come true. I, too, faced doubts with uncertainties and lacked role models and saw no one like me paving the way. But if a wild idea brings you joy, chase it! Your mind's creation might just revolutionize & shape history. LCBC Institute symbolizes my support for dreamers like me - those with bold ideas who fear being seen as odd. Those with innovative concepts who fear standing out. It's the place where our craziest dreams sprout wings and turn into dazzling masterpieces, sprinkling confidence like glitter on our clients and customers - just like I did for my lovely Granny Mary!
